Thor the dark world review

THOR THE DARK WORLD MOVIE REVIEW

Thor the dark world is sequel to 2011's Thor and takes place after the Avengers. In my opinion this is the third best film that Marvel has made[Apart from the Avengers and Iron man 3]. It may not reach the level of the darkly humorous Iron man 3 or the awesomeness of the Avengers but it's a fun night out at the cinema for all ages. One of the things I liked was Loki. Tom Hiddleston brings charm, wit, charisma to the role of Thor's evil half-brother. There is a lot of humour in this film. There are some huge laugh out loud moments coming from the characters, especially Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis and Loki. The action scenes are gritty, loud, dirty and awesome. Director Alan Taylor[director from HBO's Game of Thrones]brings epic cinematography, dark and gritty action scenes and awesome slow mo shots. Thor is a stronger character in this film and Antony Hopkins brings a father-figure quality to Odin but this film does not succeed at everything...

The villain Malkeith[Played by Christopher Eccelston] is a weak villain, the length of the film not giving him enough time to develop into a three-dimensional character. Malkeith has no strength of his own he relies on his soldiers and henchman Kurse also many of the other character relationships are underdeveloped thanks to the film's runtime. Just to mention Jane Foster(Thor's girlfriend) is an unnecessary character but even as the writers try to develop her character they make her even more unnecessary. They waste Erik Selvig on nude jokes and the film relies on Loki to make the film better. The pace of the film made it feel predictable but there are some unexpected moments but they seem out of place. Some humour is dire and all the villains are wasted.

Overall the film may not be Marvel's best film but it an improvement on Thor 1 with its startling action pieces although character relationships are underdeveloped and there is a weak villain. Thor 2 deserves 3.5 stars because it is an epic action sci-fi adventure that provides huge laughs for the audience.

The Wolverine Review

The Wolverine review

I am reviewing the sixth instalment of the X-Men franchise starring Hugh Jackman,Famake Janssen,Tao Okamato,Ria Fukushima,Svetlana Khodchenkova,Will Yun Lee,Brian Tee and Hiroyuki, Score composed and conducted by Marco Beltrami,Based on The Wolverine by Chris Claremont,Frank Miller,Screenplay by Mark Bomback and Scott Frank,Directed by James Mangold

Wolverine. After the disappointing threequel and a prequel the studio decided to do a standalone feature film featuring everyone's favourite gruff superhero Wolverine. And it did not disappoint. Hugh Jackman is in top form showing off equally good acting and fighting ability. I enjoyed the way they were showing Wolverine's personality and how the events of X men:the last stand had effected him. I did enjoy this film more than Man of Steel[Even though I enjoyed it]and Iron man 3[My opinion of Iron man 3 has changed I don't exactly like it any more]. In my opinion this is one of the best CBM's[Comic book movies] of the year. Throughout the course of the film you are transported to Japan, it's culture,it's people and it's style. Completely different from New York or Metropolis
Viper tongue
Firstly Wolverine is not a happy movie. It is sad. As the plot, twists and turns grow and mood gets gloomier and gloomier by the minute. The plot has a Shakespearian feel, family quarrels and fights, lovers betraying their loved ones. There is a twist at the end which is a shocking yet interesting. There are some humorous moments including the love hotel which do put a smile on your face but it dies down and doesn't last long. The villains including Viper [above] are a good addition although Viper has one fatal flaw:  it  feels like she came from a completely different film. The film makes unknown Japanese actresses and actors feel and act great. The finale is a little rushed, the love story is a little weird and everything a bit dull.
RWV8cts
Wolverine deserves 4 stars because of its fast paced, hard edged, grounded storyline, it's suprising twist, it's characters, acting and composing while Viper is one of the only flaws
Wolverine is not the perfect CBM but it is a good hard edged thriller and is a great addition to the X men franchise.

Planes Review

Planes Review

I am reviewing Pixar's spin off to cars starring Val Kilmer,Dane Cook,Stacy Kech,Danny Mann,Brad Garret,Teri Hatcher,Priyanka Chopra,Cedric the Entertainer,Julia Louise-Dreyfus,Roger Craig Smith and John Ratzenberg,Story by John Lassaster,Klay Hall and Jeremy M.Howard,Screenplay  by Jeremy M. Howard,Directed by Klay Hall

I have to be honest I didn't like this film. And there is one thing that annoys me most:Greddy Disney. This will keep your child's attention for the whole movie but it will bore any adult, tween or teen that has to sit through it. The story is clichéd and predictable, the gags unfunny and awkward while the unknown voice cast don't help either. This is a cheap knock off for 5 year olds. Originally planned for straight to DVD everything feels forced and it also has a feeling that the whole department just put in no effort. At all. Yet some things are good. The variety of planes and their personalties are one of the only interesting parts of the film and a special appearance by John Cleese as a British fighter plane is one of the more interesting unique characters. The cameo by John Ratzenberg was funny and pleasing and satisfying. The Clichéd love story and rivalry aren't helpful just showing that Disney want to sell toys and steal our money for a rubbish rip off

Planes deserves 1 star because it is forced, juvenile, boring, disappointing, unfunny and the biggest let down that Disney has given us. This is only recommended to 1-8 years olds.

Percy Jackson&The sea of monsters review

Percy Jackson&The Sea of Monsters review

I am reviewing Percy Jackson&The Sea of Monsters,Starring Logan Lerman,Brandon.T.Jackson,Alexandra Daddario,Antony Stewart Head,Stanley Tucci,Leven Rambin[Clarrise],Jake Abel,Nathan Fillion,Douglas Smith,Ron Perlman&Paloma Kwiatkowski,Score composed&Conducted by Andrew Lockington ,Screenplay by Marc Guggehiem,Directed by Thor Freundthenthal

In the world of teen fantasy movies only one has been the greatest:Harry Potter. This week is the battle between two teen franchises:The Mortal Instruments & Percy Jackson. So which one is better?
Percy Jackson &The Lighting Thief disappointed fans of the books and the general public worldwide. So does this follow in it's footsteps? not completely. The acting of the teenage actors has improved and the additions [Leven Rambin and Douglas Smith ] sit comfortably in their roles. Percy Jackson 2 is more of a requel: A reboot [Something that basically starts the whole story, setting or cast all over again] and a sequel. The new actors such as [Stanley Tucci, Nathan Fillion&Antony Head] are welcome,Tucci a humorous and well needed addition to the cast I feel should  have been in the predecessor. The screenwriter makes sure that Tucci's Role[Miserable camp leader Mr.D]is like the character from the book and he certainly does it well. The prologue at the start is positive yet may confuse the audience and they may wonder who these characters are and what they are facing. For fans of the book this is a good film, being more truthful to the book. The film throws some new inventive styles and ideas at us and some of these ideas work. The story involving Percy and Tyson is really Heart-warming, we learn some life lessons and their chemistry is great here.
Now here for the negatives:

One of my problems was Tyson. He felt a little wooden in places and awkward. Another was it wasn't fast paced :It felt rushed. Event passed event after event and it all felt rushed.I admit that the return of Luke was not helpful he felt as wooden as Tyson. His character felt wasted and out of place. In the movie[Spoiler] he gets eaten twice and that's how he is wasted. Another things is...
It felt a little bit generic& clichéd. The prophecy was another cliché and Anthony Head's performance was al right but I still felt like he was acting on TV again as King Uther[This actor has been in Merlin and other shows]and Nathan Fillion felt a bit out of place. A bit miscast. And the Kronos ending should never have happened. Kronos's CGI is rubbish showing him as pathetic,it feels very rushed and I didn't like it.

Percy Jackson is a simplistic adventure which may be a bit generic . Percy Jackson and the sea of monsters deserves 3.5 stars because it's fun yet serious in places,it may disappoint fans and some of it feels very forced.
Percy Jackson is a good family film. It may not be the greatest but still deserves to be watched. So yes Percy Jackson is a recommended family film.

Pacific Rim review

Pacific Rim

I am reviewing the popcorn movie of the summer Pacific Rim starring Charlie Hunnam,Idris Elba,Rinko Kikuchi,Charlie Day,Burn Gorman,Max Martini,Cliton Collins J.R,Ron Perlman,Ellen McLain,Robert Kasinsky,Diego Klattenhoff,Score composed and conducted by Ramin Djawadi,Written by Gulimero Del Toro and Travis Beachem,Story by Travis Beachem,Directed by Gulimero Del Toro

This is what Pacific Rim looked like when the first teaser was released:Godzilla meets Transformers. Oh we were so wrong. Pacific Rim is a piece of cinematic art not in the style of Christopher Nolan[Director of Inception]or Michael Bay[Director of the Transformers trilogy] but in the style of Visionary director Gulimero Del Toro. Pacific Rim is an explosion of colours mixing melancholy themes and fun laid back action sequences with a variety of characters and arcs. It is also homage to the old black and white movies such as 2000 leagues under the sea and King Kong. Homages and references are in nearly every scene. It's colorful and never has a dull moment. Compared to the films it has been inspired by it outshines them in audacity and action although there are some things that weigh the film down...

Ron Perlman in Pacific Rim
I admit one of the biggest problems was Ron Perlman. Yes I do enjoy the actor's work but Perlman seems to play the same type of character over and over again and it needs to stop. Hellboy,Conan I could go on...
His choices remind of Johnny Depp always plays the mad character always plays the gruff characters. It's irritating. Perlman's character is a swear bomb just ticking with all sort of swear words up his sleeve. Honestly I felt like he was just needed there because he had a good relationship with Del Toro and he had to be in it but maybe there's a different reason. A more convincing reason. But there was another thing to make you understand why it's getting beat by Despicable me 2 and what looks to be Adam Sandler blandest and only sequel yet Grown Ups 2. The characterization. It feels a little awkward,a little flimsy in the way it all works. It feels like it's focusing more on moving the action forward and the story which isn't a bad thing but it doesn't spend enough time on the characters. I admit I enjoyed Australian actor Charlie Hunnam's performance. He's not as outstanding as some actors could be but he tries his best at leaping the character off the script. Rinko Kikuchi is the hidden gem of this film. She's strong, not exactly feisty but is rebellious. She grew on me as her origin and arc was exploited. Honestly if a sequel or a trilogy was ever made I would like more of her dilemmas explained. Who were her real parents? What if they came back? There are infinite possibilities  I would love to explore. Her relationship with Idris Elba is very investing and interesting. And that brings us to Mr. Idris Elba...

This is the first time I have seen a TV actor play a character with such coldness and calculation. His character and performance really reminds me of Spock and the speech he does is phenomenal the timing is done perfectly. I admit the plot is thrown together but the actors are the heart and soul of the film the only thing is that Gulimero Del Toro doesn't realize that are characters that we have grown to love he hasn't spend enough time on developing the characters. Elba is awesome perfect casting when he has a send off you feel for him. And now we switch to two mad scientists. People could call him the new Jar Jar but I disagree Charlie Day was one of the hearts of the film. He was humorous & daring. Quite geeky. Honestly he's awesome. Yet his rival doesn't have enough time to develop. There are so many new characters but the're left undeveloped.

The romance. The love story. Does every story need one?Honestly Del Toro achieved something;A romance where the two leads like each other but no kisses no expressions of affections. the romance wasn't exactly widened in this movie. If a widened universe where to happen or a sequel the romance needs to be a little more focused. The movie's ending: They fancy each other the end (blunt but honest). No time to focus on what the consequences are. That's the flaw...

The fight scenes are long and extended but Pacific Rim deserves 4.5 stars because of it's good performances,it's good execution, visuals & story but the characters,Ron Perlman, the writing and the cheesy dialogue in some parts are a negative. It's worth a shot!!!

Retaliation

RETALIATION
Hello there, readers. Now I only mentioned the three scripts I was working on. Retaliation,Universe and Arachnid. I need some help with the Retaliation script so let me explain my problem: The finale is big but I don't know where to set it. Three places I have in my mind and I know what will happen in the situations i just don't know where to set it. These are the three settings: Asgard,Space and New York. Let me start with Asgard. This is the team allying with the Asgardian forces,Thor and Odin. Originally I was planning to include  the Asgard attack at the start of the film but I thought it would suit the finale better. So if you email me I will count how many has voted for Asgard,Space and so so  email me now!

The battle between Brainiac's forces and the Asgardians[Above]
Yes this is the battle of Anzanulbizar from the Hobbit but this what it would look like if visualized on the big or small screen. Brainiac has a whole host of creatures, robots and aliens. He does have a main army with swords, shields, arrows etc. The battle is destructive, Odin even joining the fight and the Warriors Three and a little help from Zeus. Brainiac goes to destroy Asgard because that will weaken Earth's defenses and let him destroy Earth. Brainiac has a history with Asgard which isn't exactly revealed till sequels and so. Thor does get his chance. This battle does effect below them. The spires of Asgard are falling through onto innocent people destroying lives and the army are defenseless. They try and shoot down the falling spires but crash into the innocent cities. And Brainiac's forces attempt to jump through down to below once they've dealt with the Asgardians. That doesn't mean the others don't get a chance.

Thor in the middle of the struggle[Above]
Now let me ask you. Should I kill off Odin? Odin is featured in the solo movie of Thor not exactly doing much. Odin's death would be a pretty big thing to Thor and change the tone towards the end.  The tone throughout the film sort of has an Avengers type feel not as cartoonish  but still fun and go happy but a major death would switch the tone of the continuing films to happy to dark and intentionally Nolan like. Thor looks up to his father as what he could be even though he was a hard father too please. Odin is a happy but withered god relying on his sons to succeed him. I did plan Odin to kill Brainiac but I suggested another hero should have their moment. So you decide on this one. Thor does fight with the others and so.
Space:
Space. Brainiac's ship is above the Earth ready to lower his ship down to the ground and then...A government ship comes up piloted by Barry Allen[The Flash] and fires. Damaging the ship the two ships are forced into a dogfight and Brainiac has other forces to deal with. So let's see what can happen?

The Government ship[Above]
Barry Allen, the second fastest man alive trained to be a space pilot but began working in the police force. Got hit by 50 mph lighting with special chemicals and became the second fastest man alive and a superhero.
Why am I telling you this?In the space finale this becomes key to the finale. Allen fires the ship going against orders and fighting with technology he doesn't know of. The ship gets damaged allot and he sends Tony Fort and Bruce Wayne in space suits to disable the ship. He didn't say anything about killing Brainiac. Brainiac as I explained in my Man of Steel trailer review is a DC character, Flash is a DC character, Thor is a Marvel character. These characters are all inspired by these incarnations and other characters.

Brainiac[Above]
Fort and Wayne are dodging missiles, laser beams, a looming ship and several other ships. They don't know what will happen next. They successfully reach the ship command the force of fire and Brainiac locks them inside with him. Brainiac deteriorates into a machine like form like the Terminator exoskeleton and they begin fighting. In the struggle Brainiac activates the machine and Earth starts to crumble into nothing. Wayne battles Brainiac even though outmatched and Fort is outnumbered between Brainiac's soldiers. Blood is on Wayne's hands and then Superman comes. They both struggle against  each other Wayne struggling and asking Clark to destroy the machine. Then the machine becomes unstoppable. Superman goes inside the machine nearly killed by it's energy then gets back up. Wayne seeing Sinestro's lying red ring sets explosives inside the ship to destroy Brainiac and then a ship comes flying into the ship. A smaller more agile ship breaks the control system and the ship is going to destroy by the time it reaches below. Allen's ship chases after the falling castle and tries to pull it into space but it destroys most of New York. And then Brainiac throws Wayne out to fall to his death and then the ship explodes.

Brainiac's ship crashing into New York[Above]
NEW YORK:

Brainiac's army [Above]
This finale is Avengers style. Brainiac releases his army and forces the team to fight to the death. They assemble in a way and they begin fighting much to Brainiac's dismay. Brainiac sends the drones to back up his forces and Fort has to contend with them on the tower. Then the annihilation begins. Brainiac uses a bridge to send more and more forces in, rallying them. Wayne's old police commissioner of New York James Gordon leads a squadron of US army soldiers. Gordon fights some of Brainiac's forces from the ground while Hal Jordan, a pilot leads his planes into battle with Brainiac's ships. The ships are stronger damaging Jordan's wing and making him crash into Time square. The soldiers keep on coming through the portal, the drones destroyed by Fort,Thor and Banner. As Brainiac continues to reducing the planet to ash Clark faces Brainiac in a heated battle as Wayne uses his Batwing to hold off the upcoming forces.

Brainiac's armor[Above]
The Batwing holds off many things but gets destroyed by Brainiac's ship. One of Brainiac's soldiers almost kills Wayne whenever the Batwing is crashing. Wayne gets involved in the fight getting battered by Brainiac's powerful strength. Superman angered nearly kills Brainiac but is asked to stop by Wayne and then Brainiac becomes a machine,a living exoskeleton. Superman is weakened brought down by the living machine and Superman goes inside the world engine destroying part of Brainiac's ship and his plan. Brainiac almost kills Superman then Wayne attacks Brainiac weakening him then as Wayne grabs Sinestro's dormant ring[I'll explain] He imagines the place to explode and Wayne is got in a violent swirl of red energy disentgrating Brainiac. Brainiac pushes Wayne off the energy and he is falling to his death just about to die then...
We cut to Wayne sitting in hospital going through flashbacks
Here are some images that visualize the New York finale

Man of steel review

Man of Steel review

I am now reviewing Christopher Nolan's take on Superman directed by Zack Snyder,Starring Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe,Michael Shannon,Antje Traue,Kevin Costner,Laurence Fishburne,Amy Adams,Richard Schiff,Aylelet Zurer,Henry Lennix and Christopher Meloni,Music composed and conducted by Hans Zimmer,Story by David.S.Goyer and Christopher Nolan, Screenplay by David.S.Goyer

An image from Superman returns above. The predecessor of Man of steel. Superman returns was like the Batman and Robin or Forever of the Superman franchise and then Man of steel is the Batman begins of the Superman franchise. The film's start is an utterly compelling sequence showing how the planet Krypton was destroyed and why Zod is our primary antagonist. We see that Krypton caused it's own destruction with Russell Crowe's troubled Jor-El trying to avert the disaster and Zod doing what he thinks is right. It seems Zod's view of right has been corrupted and that corruption seems to grow throughout the film. Jor-El after Zod's betrayal takes desperate measures and steals an important object that does become key to the finale. With Zod's forces clashing with the Kryptonian's army Jor-El goes to his child[Superman] and plans to send him away to Earth. Jor has hope in his son and the humans that Kal-El will be treated with respect and his son will be a god to the humans. As Jor cleverly hides the object he stole early in the ship he faces Zod and then in anger Zod kills Jor. Crowe's performance and the storyline at the moment are at top notch and high quality. With the ship heading  to Earth and Zod's forces failing to stop the craft the Kryptonian government capture Zod. As Zod is sent to the Phantom Zone, a Krytonian prison Michael Shannon, the actor who plays Zod shows off his villainous skills, screaming in uncontrollable anger at the government and Jor's wife "You think your son is safe." "I will find him!!!!!"

Zod[above]
Jor's wife watches Krypton, her home die from environmental issues and shows us the possible effects of global warming and so on. The end of the planet is utterly heartbreaking and shows that Goyer can show emotions without making it melodramatic. As the craft lands on Earth we cut to Clark[Superman] all grown up working as a fisherman. Clark is now down on Earth working as a fisherman and an outcast. He makes a mistake and the other workers treat him like dirt. You see how it feels to be an outcast in a world that you don't understand. An oil rig has exploded near the boat Clark is working on and rebellious Clark goes into the Oil Rig alone. The look of the oil rig is very realistic and this scene shows similar  emotion to  the last scenes of Krypton being destroyed . Clark jumps in struggling to hold the crane and then it crashes down on him. Drifting in the water we see what life was like for young Clark in a flashback: You feel his pain, his strange abilities. He sees everything. It is his gift. It is his curse. As Clark struggles to control his powers we see that he is an outsider disrespected by his classmates. We see that he needs someone to comfort him and in the form of Diane Lane he is comforted by his adopted mother.  My  view of the film so far is brilliant. We cut to Clark looking outside the house and seeing the school bus. We switch to when he's a young boy sitting on the bus all on his own. As a young bully strikes with mild swearing we see a character I have never seen on the big screen before. Lana Lang. Lang is a secondary love interest to Lois Lane in the comics and shown as a young teenager, she's a defensive smart girl.

Then in an intense sequence we see the bus fall off a bridge. The children drowning. You feel their pain as the children are suffering. Then Clark jumps in. Lifting up the bus with all his might we see that young Clark despite the bullying, the hard times and suffering goes in there and saves his classmates and the bully. We cut to the Kent household as the bully and his mother talk with Clark's adopted parents about what happened and they are certainly shocked. The mother and son describe Clark's abilities as 'Olympian'. We see Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent. Compared to Uncle Ben in the recent Marvel reboot The Amazing Spider-man this character is stronger, has more depth and doesn't say a load of nonsense. Jonathan knows that the world wasn't ready for Clark at that time and when he replies to Clark's answer "What do I do?Let them die!" He replies with "Maybe," I was shocked then. A middle aged man saying that his boy with great power could let innocent children die. He will take any step to not let the world know of his son's abilities. Then we see Clark at the bar drinking away and then we see Clark deal with another bully. We see the bully push Clark around and in a witty sequence we see them fight but Clark just stands there nothing hurting him. Even when the man throws hard glass mugs at him - well they bounce off.

Colonel Hardy and Emil Hamilton[Above]
We cut to the Arctic seeing the first appearance of Enchanted Amy Adam's Lois Lane. Adams is in strong form feisty fiery and perfectly witty. She pushes her way through situations and she does have one key similarity with Clark:She never gives up in what she believes, she never listens to what other people think of her. There is something under the ice and the army composed of Lois Lane,Colonel Hardy and Dr.Emil Hamilton want to find it. As Feisty Lois assembles her gear we see Clark posing as one of the crew and then Lois spots him. As Clark goes inside and finds a massive Kryptonain ship crashed inside the ice. As Clark talks to a hologram of the dead Jor-El. Jor-El explains Clark's origin. Lois sneaks inside the ship  and gets hurt sneaking around inside the craft. An unnamed robot attacks her and caring Clark after discovering his origins tends Lois's wound and then he disappears. In a brief but amazing sequence we see Emil and Hardy shocked at the sight of well the alien craft rising from the ice and then Lois becomes even more curious with Clark. She at the minute doesn't know that Clark is her saver and that he is an alien. Lois sends this to the Daily Planet and shows Perry White her article.

Laurence Fishburne who portrays Perry White is a perfectly grumpy jerk. He's stubborn, grumpy and absolutely jerky. He refuses to publish the article because of the level of stupidness. Would you believe that a young man was actually an alien and also publish it in a newspaper. Firstly you'd wouldn't believe it and you would believe it to be a scam,a publicity stunt. Lois doesn't give up on her story. We see Lois hunt down her disappearing hero, asking many people who knew Clark at work and so including the old school bully on the bus. Then she goes to the Kent Farm. Lois goes to the small lonely grave of Jonathan Kent and then Clark appears. Explained in the flashback Clark's abilities/gifts were the reason why his father died. A savage tornado comes that day and the family evacuate the passengers from the stopped traffic getting them to safety. Jonathan stays behind saving the rest of the passengers including the dog and then gets killed in the tornado not allowing Clark to use his powers to save him. The sequence is emotional and when the tornado happened Clark was very rebellious and didn't care for the people who looked after him even if they weren't his parents. The message is if you're adopted or if you're looked after by your uncle, auntie, grandad then for the rest of your life they are the people who make you who you are. They've taught you the lessons, the rights, the wrongs, what to do. Even if they're not your real parents they're still the people who care for you.

The Tornado above with Henry Cavill and Kevin Costner[above]
We cut to the Daily Planet and Lois has a change of heart. She sees Clark's reasons and motivations to why he hides his identity to why he doesn't use his powers and she drops the article. Clark returns to the farm to see his 'mother' and he decides to stay. Then things get a whole lot more complicated. The emotions are high and at the minute the film is not just doing well in the action department but the story department too. Clark is watching football, government satellites are doing the usual and then Zod comes to earth. In a threatening message showing off Zod's sublime villainy we see that Zod has been looking for Clark for a long long time. He threatens the world into handing over Clark and Clark has to make a decision: Hand himself over or watch the world burn.As Clark goes to church he's asking himself questions . The world is in panic. Lois is getting hunted by the FBI.We see what happens when she gets involved with stuff like that. Clark talks to the pastor wondering what to do and then the pastor replies softly "I'd take a leap of faith"Even though a small character I found the pastor a little stereotypical but he's nothing controversial or offensive.

Clark goes and hands himself over. The army standing and looking prepared to fire and Clark just calmly floats down to the ground. As Zod's ship comes down Clark is forced to go down meeting Foara( Zod's wife). Then the flaws of the film come through. Why is Lois on the ship? She is forced to come on yet she is no use to Zod and so on. But before we get to that Clark or Kal meets Zod for the first time. Michael Shannon is still dark throughout the entire film, villainous and willing to do anything for the dead planet of Krypton. David.S.Goyer writer of the film tries to make Zod a sympathetic villain like James Vanderbilt in the Amazing Spider man with Curt Connors. Goyer does it better. Connors wasn't a strong villain it felt like something to just throw in there to keep the movie going while it has run out of ideas while Zod is a driving force for the film a departure from the usual generic villain. As Clark goes up and for the first time in the film franchise Zod doesn't weaken Kal with Kryptonite. The air is his weakness. Kal is not used to the air of Krypton so is partially weakened and Zod meets him in his dreams. Unlike in Batman Begins where Scarecrow was just no use to the story and just used to make Henri Ducard stronger[I would recommend watching Batman Begins for details] we see that the villain's plan is stronger and even the henchmen do their part. Zod has a plan to bring Krypton to Earth and in a nightmarish sequence in Kal's dream where Kal gets sucked into a field of skulls. Now things have got a lot more complicated.

We see Lois get thrown in prison with a special device that Kal got in the chamber earlier in the film. She plugs it into the ship and sees the hologram of Jor. Russel Crowe isn't underused and he certainly has his part to play. As Lois shoots down to Earth inside a pod and Zod is angered by Kal's protection of the humans. Clark goes struggling to save Lois. The pod is heading towards Earth at breakneck speed and we see it land with Kal just about saving it. Now about the romance. It's forced but as the film goes on you feel like they are a couple it's just that the film doesn't spend too much time on the romantic aspect . Some critics have accused Lois of not being the glam reporter as they expected. I think different. Adams gives a different approach to the character, headstrong and fiery and there's a sense of realism. Everything isn't perfect being a reporter. She's being accused of being mad because of this disappearing man but she still believes what she saw and who she saw. That's one of the positives of Goyer's screenplay even if it's not perfect. Kal saves Lois and we see a large fight straight in the middle of Smallville. Foara vs Superman vs the Army. And is it awesome. Finally we see Superman punch and batter and him getting hurt. Foara is an equally strong villain

As Foara throws planes, destroys trucks we see a exhilarating fight. Now some critics say there is a CGI overload. I have to agree. There is a little bit too much CGI. It does hurt your eyes but you still see what's going on, the characters having an epic struggle. It is breathtaking yet a little too much. Henry Cavill's casting caused a lot of controversy but I have to say his performance was the best one yet apart from Christopher Reeve. Now some people compare this to the 1978 original. I have one thing to say: They are both two very different movies. I prefer this one because it's modern day and relatable but I still find the 1978 one a classic. Different villains, different motives, different personalities. The're both two extremely enjoyable movies. I don't blame them for not liking Man of Steel it's just that the're both enjoyable and both extremely different from each other. Cavill shows emotion, anger, tears, he is the Robert Downey Jr of the Superman franchise: The perfect choice for Superman in modern day. Of course Foara has a weakness and she does get her butt kicked by colonel Hardy and missiles but Foara can kick butt, a lot of butt. She's not stereotypical. She's awesome the best female character I've seen in the DC universe. As Foara is weakened we see that Kal has to make choices: a difficult choice none of us would have the ability to make.

Now don't be expecting a Dark Knight be expecting an Avenger scale movie. We see Nolan's abilities that one very convoluted character can become realistic without losing the aliens, the ships or the laser eyes. Until now I've considered Superman a cliche: Strong, invincible not a care, always defeating the villains but this has showed another side to Superman. He has powers, he's invincible but he still has problems but that doesn't mean the movie has to be dark and depressing. He's a symbol of hope. Superman was created in the 1930's the depression era. He is a symbol of hope either then or now. A world engine is sent down to Earth and the epic emotional finale begins. The world is now in fear. Kal now called Superman by a army personnel. Now about the humor. It isn't big on humor but it still has those small moments. It doesn't rely on humor as Iron man 3. It balanced tones and did it right. Well now the finale is exhilarating. As Kal battles the world engine, buildings falling, people dying. Everything is falling apart. Kal struggles to fight the world engine and the army struggling against Zod's forces.  We see a little line that Foara says earlier and that Hardy repeats "Death is a reward,"he was right. Everybody plays their part. Even Emil helps. Lois is sucked inside the world engine Kal saving her and destroying the machine. Then Zod goes nuts. I mean nuts. Super nuts. The battle is emotional yet is breathtaking. Zod is still the last of his race. And the score brings everything to life. I would recommend listening to it If you love music by Hans Zimmer on a device or Youtube because it shows off what is going on. At the last intense sequence I saw the most intense and heartbreaking thing: Superman snaps Zod's neck.

We see why Superman screams because Zod was the last of his race,He had no choice and he didn't want to do it. And the ending is awesome. Martha Kent asks "What will you do while you're not saving the world" Clark gets a job at the daily Planet. I like the clever ending because it's true to the comics, it's clever and it's realistic but I have one problem with it. As Clark walks in with his glasses and Lois comes to greet the new recruit we obviously know that she knows that it's Superman. That's the annoying part.

Man of Steel deserves 5 stars because it's enjoyable fun yet action packed and teaches us something important if you look past the CGI and the violence. Man of Steel has it's flaws but it's still enjoyable. Batman Begins taught us that anyone can be Batman,Spider man[2002] taught us that -comes great power comes great responsibility and Man of Steel teaches us that if you're different and  you're not popular you can still do great things and should never give up and do the right thing no matter how far people push you.
