★★★★☆
With the trailer released yesterday I've decided to review The Hobbit:The Desolation of Smaug directed by Peter Jackson,Music Composed and conducted by Howard Shore,Screenplay by Fran Walsh,Phillipa Boyens and Peter Jackson,Based on the Hobbit by JRR.Tolkien
The trailer starts with a short monologue of the journey. The ruins of Erebor are exploited in the trailer and we see that Thorin has run into his frenemy:Thraundil. Lee Pace only showing himself briefly in The Hobbit:An Unexpected Journey shows that his involvement could make the quest a whole lot more complicated. Thorin after showing his grudge for the elves seems more depressed than ever. Lee Pace shows in this glimpse of him in the trailer that even though he shown briefly that he can handle the role of a grand king, stern, strict and doubting the journey. It is hard to take him seriously since he was in box office flop 2010's animated comedy Marmaduke and in that I didn't find him that appealing so my opinion might change. We are shown the barrel sequence with some unusual CGI in the background and the fun of the sequence. Bouncing, barreling down the narrow pathway. We switch to Bilbo, happy looking after the problems of the predecessor through a large bush. He seems more happy and I don't think Martin Freeman's flawlessly awkward performance will not go away. We see more footage of the barrel sequence and then we see the elves. Jumping around CGI and we see how this adds up to the first shot with Thraundil. They meet Thraundil getting caught by his soldiers.
We see are first shot of Murkwood. On Peter Jackson's channel there is a piece of concept art of Murkwood. Seeing it for the first time I am amazed. It does look like a horrifically nightmarish place that been brought to life brilliantly. We see a large tag line similar to the last teaser trailer Beyond Darkness'Dramatically and then the thing that made lOTR run:Legolas. Bloom is filled with energy showing his relationship with dwarves and reminds of how he acted with Gimli. Beorn the bearman
Is shown, Bilbo scared out of his life and the dwarves are struggling to hold the bear. The CGI is amazing, showing realism and mastery. Evangeline Lily is seen as a strong actress and when we see her in character form she on strong form. Feisty. Strong. Goes against the men. We see Lily fighting and I think Laketown. It does have a similar appearance to Laketown. We see Lily and Bloom talking and that Legolas is more reckless than in lOTR. We see more of Erebor and the treasure trove and Bilbo sliding through mountains of gold. It seems Bilbo is enjoying his time on the journey. Gandalf and Radagast are waiting for the Necromancer and slightly annoying Radagast isn't being that annoying. We see that Gandalf are prepared to meet Sauron and that we are going to see some Gandalf action. As we switch to Rivendell and the home of the elves we see Azog and the battle with the elves. An unexpected journey was more of a beginning and this seems to be a more exciting energy filled action packed film:
We see Murkwood spiders crawling up the derelict trees and The Bowman portrayed by Luke Evans. Evans is a strong actor showing his strengths in Fast and Furious 6. Evans with his warning voice warns them of Smaug. This is a selfish quest and will affect everyone. I mean everyone. We see Gandalf fighting Sauron and the clash between the scouts of orcs and elves. Various shots show Bilbo and the dwarves against various forces. The battle scenes looks visually audacious and we see the title shot:
THE HOBBIT:THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG
Then we see why it's called the desolation of Smaug. A looming shot of the dragon chasing Bilbo. I hope to hear Benedict Cumberbatch's voice, his looming operatic voice going against the dwarves
This looks like an improvement of the Hobbit:An Unexpected Journey and this looks more exciting, less slow and greatly done. So this is a great trailer to watch.
